Dr Chris Ward, infectious diseases and microbiology specialist trainee at King’s College Hospital in London, visited Sibford School near Banbury to talk about ‘Emerging Infections’.
Speaking at the school’s termly Café Scientifique, Chris discussed pathogens that have crossed a species barrier into humans and subsequently caused epidemics. Diseases that were put under the spotlight included Ebola, the Zika virus, Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome and Influenza.
Since qualifying from Cambridge University in 2007, Chris has worked in Peterborough, Cambridge, Oxfordshire (including a four month stint at Banbury) and London.
