Sixth Form

Our Sixth Form pupils work exceptionally hard in school time, but we are always delighted to hear about their efforts outside of Sibford.

Recently a number of our Sixth Form pupils have achieved success in doing what they love, from being accepted into the National Youth Theatre to kayaking and swimming, and winning a place to study at the Royal Academy of Dance.

National Youth Theatre success for Seamus

'Over the summer I took part in a week-long induction course for the National Youth Theatre. It was quite intense but was undoubtedly one of the best weeks I've had in a long time. It would normally have taken place in London but despite being online it was still engaging, informative and fun. There was a range of classes ranging from improvisation, devising, and characterisation to vocal and breathing exercises, looking in-depth at aspects of acting I'd only ever touched on before.

It was an honour and a privilege to be taught by professional actors and directors. I met people who I will stay friends with for the rest of my life, which is something I didn't think was possible in our new Zoom based world, but it was a true joy to spend my time with such talented people who shared my love of acting. Throughout September and October, I was part of a weekly course on 'Acting for Screen and Self Taping', where I not only improved my own skills but also discovered techniques for screen acting which will be extremely helpful if I go into the industry.

In the future, I will have the opportunity to do more acting masterclasses as well as auditions for stage and TV performances. I very much look forward to the coming years as a member of such a prestigious organisation.'

Seamus, Year 13.

Yasmin joined the Royal Academy of Dance

'I was very pleased to be offered a place to study dance A Level at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) back in July 2020, as many people audition and only a maximum of 20 people get chosen. The course covers dance styles and theory from contemporary to ballet. The A Level course combines practical and written skills with a focus on choreography and performance, as well as analysis and criticism of dance. The course will also enable me to develop my understanding and knowledge of dance.

Since starting the course, I do theory lesson online, which includes looking at our health, practitioners, and analysing dances. I also travel to Battersea, London for practical lessons. I will be assessed in June and have 3 exam questions to complete over the course of the year.'

Yasmin, Year 12.

Swimming and kayaking

Michael in Year 13 is a keen kayaker of 5 years and before lockdown began, trained 3 times a week. He has competed in the National Schools Kayaking championships with Harry, also in Year 13, as well as competing in Belgium at the annual Sobeka kayaking regatta.

Lara in Year 12, started training when she was 7 and currently swims 8 times a week in Oxford. She competes at a national level and has taken part in competitions such as the Luxembourg Euro meet and the Edinburgh International meet.
