Last week saw our induction day for Year 12 and 13.
The Life Skills Company
The 1st of September marked the return of our sixth formers to school. The day took the form of an induction where students would focus on study skills that will support students in the transition between GCSE to A level. Chloe Mills delivered an “Independent Learning Conference” which initially got the students to consider and write up a Personal Action Plan. This plan focused on specific study skills such as speed and skim reading, effective note taking, condensing text, time management and ultimately presentation skills. All these skills will play a vital role at some point in their post 16 journey or the world beyond Sibford. Students received a masterclass in how to develop these skills through exploring unique tips and strategies for each skill. Hopefully, students will take the ideas they learnt and put them into practice immediately in and out of the classroom.
Emma Goodman -Recruitment consultant (Building an effective CV workshop)
After lunch during the sixth form induction day, Emma Goodman (a recruitment specialist) came in to run a “CV” workshop with our year 12 and year 13 students. Emma has a vast amount of experience in the recruitment world working with many established organisations in the city. This was a perfect opportunity for our sixth formers to experience what it takes to get ahead of the competition. Emma delivered an excellent session that demonstrated to students how important constructing your CV is and how this document represents you to employers. In many cases, it is the ticket that gets your foot in the door. Emma spoke about all the opportunities that Sibford provides and how important it is that potential employers identify on their CV all the transferable skills that students have developed. Emma had done effective research and preparation on our school as she was able to show students a wide variety of CV’s that give off different messages to employers. This gave our students a fantastic understanding of what it takes to be considered for a job. Students now recognise the best way to build an enriching and powerful CV which will ultimately offer employers a firm and comprehensive impression of them as a potential employee.
