All students with ASD/Autism were invited to meet for a Snackfest last week in the SFL department.
The department was donned with fairy lights and beanbags and the students chose the snacks they would like. It was a wonderful session with lots of discussion about the difficulties they face but also the positive contribution people with ASD have made to our world. For some it was the first time they had talked openly about their diagnosis, and the fact they could share this with their peers demonstrated what an open and supportive group it was. They discovered a common theme, a love of Roald Dahl’s Matilda! The group plan to meet again next term.
The group’s feedback is used to inform and educate our teachers and staff as part of their ongoing training in Special Educational Needs.
