Staff and pupils have shown plenty of Sibford Resilience during this half term when it comes to virtual learning.
Here are just some of the highlights of the last few weeks:
Drama
This term Year 7 Drama have been studying masks and the power they have in the theatre. Neil, Head of Drama sent pupils their own blank mask with a task to decorate them. These original theatre masks will then be used in a mask masterclass on their return to Sibford.
Physics
Our Year 11 - 13 physicists enjoyed a fascinating talk live from CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Christiano Alpigiani detailed the work that CERN does & his area of studying cosmic rays from our galaxy & beyond.
Chemistry
Well done to Year 13 Chemistry students, Ethan, Charlotte, Michael and Jack who all recently achieved Silver Award in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad competition.
Maths
Maths teacher Adam, has adapted his virtual learning techniques. He shares a PowerPoint with students and then uses the online pen and a graphics tablet to explain things - effectively the PowerPoint becomes a pre-annotated whiteboard!
DT
Year 8 were tasked with using recyclable materials to make something that helps support the local wildlife. Pupils got creative and made a range of bee feeders and birdhouses!
PHSE
As part of the PSHE curriculum, Year 10 and Year 11 have been considering how to look after ourselves to promote good mental health, a particular focus on thriving during lockdown. We are very fortunate to live in such beautiful surroundings and, while we all appreciate the value of spending time outside, sometimes it can be difficult to build it into our daily routine.
During a Friday afternoon PHSE session, the class decided to head outside and share views via photographs. Some even managed to stay connected through a live meeting via the MSTeams App! Well done to all who embraced the opportunity.
Sport
Pupils, both at home and those who are in school have enjoyed weekly live PE lessons with our dedicated PE staff.
Art and Textiles
For Year 7, lockdown meant has they couldn’t complete their batik pieces as planned this half term, but that did stop pupils creating their own portraits inspired by artist Brianne McCarthy.
Year 8 have been creating work inspired by Hundertwasser’s Lollipop trees. Without the usual textile resources to use they have been rather inventive with items found at home!
Pupils are also reminded that they can enter the Royal Academy of Arts competition. It is open to all students and gives the opportunity to create art using a wide range of media including painting, drawing, photography, textiles, mixed media and sculpture. Details can be found here.
